This illustrated article provides detailed procedural instructions for computer users to choose Duplicate, Extend or Presenter Mode.
Environment
These instructions apply to computers running Windows 11 in classrooms, conference and multipurpose rooms.
Directions
Shortcut method:
- Among the desktop icons, choose Display Mode, or press Windows + P on the keyboard.
- A menu will appear on the right side of your screen.
- The menu should open up on Duplicate.
- Select "Extend" to use multiple monitors with an extended desktop.

Settings method:
1. Right-click on your desktop and select Display settings.
2. Scroll down to the Multiple displays section.
3. Click the drop-down menu next to Multiple displays and select Extend These Displays.
4. Click Apply to confirm.

Putting PowerPoint into Presentation Mode:
Open your PowerPoint presentation.
- Press F5 to start the slideshow from the beginning.
- Or else press Shift + F5 to start the slideshow from the current slide.
Alternatively, you can:
- Go to the Slide Show tab in the ribbon.
- Click From Beginning or From Current Slide under the Start Slide Show group.
Check Display Settings for Presenter View:
1. Go to Slide Show tab.
2. In the Monitors group, towards the right side of the top of the tab, make sure Use Presenter View is checked.
3. Ensure the Monitor drop-down is set to the correct screen (the one you want your audience to see).
4. If it’s on the wrong screen, switch the monitor selection or use Swap Displays in the Presenter View controls.
