Playback instructions for movies on Kanopy

Kanopy is the University of Michigan’s preferred streaming service for movies and other media.

• Search by entering title here:

• Icons are located near the bottom of the screen to control playback:

  • Play/Pause, far left

  • Seek forward or back 10 seconds

  • Playback rate

  • Volume

  • Transcript

  • Captions (& subtitling)

  • Picture-in-picture

  • Full screen/Exit Full screen, far right

• For subtitles without descriptions for the hearing impaired, captions may be turned off.

• During playback, raise the cursor to the top of the screen to make the time line and setting icons disappear. Placing the cursor in the left or right margin will accomplish the same thing. Parking cursor at the top is more stable and therefore recommended.

Once playback is in progress, the keyboard's space bar may be used for pause or play.

• Depending on how the movie was formatted, Kanopy’s time line may partially obscure subtitles when playback is paused. To prevent this from happening, choose full screen mode. Time line should now appear above or between the lines of subtitling. (see attachments)
