Data Responsibility

There is always risk of data loss during a tech consultation or device repair, regardless of what type of work needs to be done. U-M is not responsible for any data loss.

Have you backed up your data lately? If not, please notify your consultant of this and they can discuss how we can help you with data backup as a first step. We strongly encourage you to back up your personal files prior to bringing your system in for consultation or repair. Device storage may need to be wiped or replaced as part of the service, or data can be lost unintentionally when any changes are made.

Hardware Repair Agreement (If Applicable):

Authorization: I am the owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Cost Estimate: A repair technician will contact me with a cost estimate; repairs will not proceed without my approval of the estimate.
Minimum Charge: For all repairs, there is a one-hour minimum ($96) required for diagnosis, unless covered by warranty, even if I choose not to proceed with service.
Warranty Limitations: Many warranties do not cover accidental damage or software issues.
Liability Waiver: ITS Tech Repair is not liable for any damages or data loss during repair.
Incidental Data Contact: Technicians may come into incidental contact with my data.
Holding Fee: $96 fee if not picked up within 30 days after completion. After 180 days, data will be wiped, and the computer will become U-M property.
