Media Collaboration in Canvas

Resolution

The Collaboration tab on the Edit Media page allows media owners to transfer or share media ownership. Transferring or sharing media ownership is useful when someone uploads on behalf of someone else or wants to share their media with other users.

Notes:

  • To edit a media entry you have to be the media owner or co-editor of the content.
  • The editing tabs may vary depending on your role.
  • To edit the media entry (trim, chop, splice, copy, and add hotspots and Interactive Video Quizzes) see the Video Editor articles.

Roles

  • Media owner: Owns the entry. Can change media settings, collaboration settings, and publish the media.
  • Co-Editor: Can change media settings and metadata but not collaboration settings. Co-editors cannot publish media. To access media you are a co-editor of select "Media I can edit" from the filter in your My Media library.
  • Co-Publisher: Can publish the media in any destination they have access to. Co-publishers can't edit media. To access media you are a co-editor of select "Media I can publish" from the filter in your My Media library.
  • Co-Viewers: Can watch videos shared with them from their My Media library. Co-viewers can't publish or edit media.

Important Note

  • Owners and collaborators must have an account. If you're unable to find the person to add as owner or collaborator it may be because they do not yet have an account.
    • Canvas accounts are created clicking My Media or Media Gallery in any course.
    • Mediaspace accounts are created on login.
