Issue
How do I move data from one Dropbox Team Folder to a different Team Folder?
Resolution
Using Dropbox on the web
Using the Move function
- Log in to U-M Dropbox.
- Open the Team Folder you want to move data from in the All files view.
- Select the file(s)/folder(s) you want to move.
- Click the ellipses (...) under the Team Folder name (above the file/folder list) and select Move from the drop-down menu. A dialog box will open where the destination folder should appear under "Suggested Location."
- Click the destination Team Folder to which you want to move the files/folders and click Move.
You should receive a message at the bottom of the screen that states the item(s) has been moved.
Using the drag-and-drop function
- Log in to U-M Dropbox.
- Open the Team Folder you want to move data from in the All files view.
- Select the file(s)/folder(s) you want to move.
- Carefully drag the file(s)/folder(s) to the destination Team Folder listed in the left sidebar/folder tree.
You should receive a message at the bottom of the screen that states the item(s) has been moved.
Using the Dropbox Desktop App (via File Explorer or Finder)
- Open the Team Folder you want to move data from in your File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
- Select the file(s)/folder(s) you want to move.
- Carefully drag and drop the file(s)/folder(s) to the destination Team Folder listed in the left sidebar/folder tree.
- Click Move anyway in the dialog box that appears to confirm.
You should receive a message at the bottom of your screen stating the item(s) have been moved.
Additional Information
- You have to be a member of both the current Team Folder and the destination Team Folder.
- You can move the data back to the original location if necessary by using the same steps as above.
- You can move data from a Team Folder to other locations, as well, not just to another Team Folder.
