Issue
How to share media from www.mivideo.it.umich.edu and other Mediaspaces.
Resolution
Notes
- Media can only be shared when uploaded to Mediaspace sites (this feature is not available in Canvas).
- Some sharing options below may not be available. Check with the Mediaspace admin if you have any questions about site settings.
Share Media
- Navigate to the user drop-down menu > My Media > click media title or thumbnail, or from Channel page > click media title or thumbnail.
- From the Media page, select the Share tab under the player.
Link to Media Page
- Copy the provided link.
- Optionally, specify a Start & End Time to share a video segment (only applies to video files). The segment will begin at the Start at time and end at the End at time when the checkboxes are checked and timestamps entered for these values.
Note: sharing the media link is not the same as granting access to the media. Media access depends on how the media is published, see Publish and Share Media from a Mediaspace. Private media can only be accessed by the media owner and collaborators. Only someone with U-M credentials can access media published in a restricted channel. To not require authentication to view the media (and share externally with non-UM people), publish your video as "unlisted" or within a public channel (only for Mediaspaces like www.mivideo.it.umich.edu that are not locked down behind weblogin).
Embed
- Copy this link to embed on a website that supports iFrames.
- Important: Embedding this code on another website will make this media public to the world and override all entitlements defined in Mediaspace.
- Specify an optional Start & End Time to share a video segment (only applies to video and audio files). The segment will begin at the Start at time and end at the End at time when the checkboxes are checked and timestamps entered for these values.
- Specify a Player Size.
- Responsive Sizing allows for the player size to adjust based on the type of device viewing the media. When this option is selected the Player Size option changes to Maximum Player Size.
oEmbed
- oEmbed is an open format to allow embedding the media onto a website.
- Copy this link to embed the media on a website that supports oEmbed.
- Specify an optional Start & End Time to share a video segment (only applies to video files). The segment will begin at the Start at time and end at the End at time when the checkboxes are checked and timestamps entered for these values.
- Select a Player Skin (this option does not apply to image files).
- Specify a Player Size.
