Audience: Learners who logged in to a Canvas Catalog using a Friend Account

Issue

We have updated the login options for U-M Canvas Catalogs. This change will not affect learner enrollment or course progress.

Starting February 18, 2026, the U-M Friend account login option will no longer be available for accessing Canvas Catalog.

Resolution

Friend account users will now log in directly with their registered email address.

First-time Setup

1. On your Catalog's login page, click the Login with Email button.
2. Enter the non umich.edu email address you used to create your Friend Account.
3. Click the "Forgot Password" link; you will receive an email with instructions to set your new password.

Everyday Login

After setting your password, use your email and new password to log in.

Troubleshooting

If you did not receive the password reset email:

• Wait at least 5 minutes.
• Check your Spam, Junk, or Promotions folders.
• Make sure you are entering the exact email address linked to your previous Friend Account.
