Environment
U-M WiFi, Android
Issue
I cannot access and/or run the SecureW2 JoinNow app for connecting to U-M WiFi (MWireless & eduroam) via the U-M WiFi Configuration and Registration Website. The website or linked pages are inaccessible or otherwise result in an error.
Resolution
Note: The following steps require your Android device to have an active network connection through a cellular data connection or otherwise accessible WiFi network (e.g., guest or private network). This is needed in order to download the SecureW2 JoinNow App from the Google Play Store and the necessary configuration for the U-M WiFi networks.
In the event that your Android device is unable to access the necessary pages on the U-M WiFi Configuration and Registration Website for downloading the WiFi Setup tool, you can attempt to manually connect to MWireless & eduroam. Instructions for doing so are available in the Wi-Fi: Configure Android Device documentation. Should attempts to do so fail or you otherwise encounter trouble, the WiFi Setup Tool can be installed directly from the Google Play Store and subsequently configured from within the app per the steps below:
- Open the Google Play Store
- Search & install the SecureW2 JoinNow app
- Open the SecureW2 app
- Select the Search and Setup New Network option.
- Enter "umich.edu" as the Domain, then click the Continue button.
- Note: The SecureW2 app will start "Searching for Configurations..." and may appear to be stuck on this step. Please be aware that this process can take an upwards of 5 minutes to complete.
- Select the UMich-WiFi option from the list.
- Note: There maybe similarly named options in the list. Please ensure you specifically select the "UMich-WiFi" option.
- Click the Continue button on the "Device Configuration" window.
- Enter your U-M uniqname and password, then click the Continue button.
- Review the message regarding the expected notification to be received in the next step, then click the Next button.
- Click Save or Allow when prompted to save the networks.
Your Android device should now be able to connect to the MWireless and eduroam WiFi networks.
Additional Information
It is recommended to leave the SecureW2 JoinNow app installed on your Android device.
In the event that you encounter issues connecting your Android device to MWireless or eduroam, we recommend opening the SecureW2 JoinNow app and selecting the Restart Setup option and proceeding from step #8.
