When students login to Spire for the first time, they complete an onboarding sequence that comprises four parts:
Part 1a: Top-level dashboard
If a student is enrolled in more than one program, they will arrive at a "top level dashboard" page upon logging in. At this point, they must choose which program they want to enter.
Part 1b: Program welcome message
If a student is enrolled in only one program, they will be taken immediately to the welcome page for that program. Read our article on Basic Program Setup for more information on how to customize this page.
Part 2: Onboarding Survey(s)
Next, students will complete one or more onboarding surveys. The minimum/default survey is used to collect behavioral data about the student that can be later used in tailored in-platform tips and emails. Programs can design and include their own surveys as well to obtain additional information. All surveys will be strung together in the order you desire in a seamless fashion. The student will not "end" one survey and "begin" another.
Part 3: Preference Exercise(s)
Next, students will read about each of the program's competencies and answer a handful of questions to help them prioritize which areas they would like to focus on (these can be changed later). By default, Spire recommends the following questions, in response to which the students can select a limited number of competencies:
- What areas are most important for your growth?
- What areas are most exciting to you personally?
- What areas might be most important for your career?
Once the student answers these questions, they see a summary of their answers. From there, they make a final decision on their focused competencies.
Page 4: Initial assessments (optional)
If your program allows students to set their initial level in each dimension (see "Competency Related Settings" of the Basic Program Setup article), you may also choose to require that they do some or all of this during onboarding. We call these "initial assessments".
Note: If you require one or more dimensions for initial assessment, students will not be able to complete the onboarding process or gain access to the program until they submit all of their assessments.
