How is financial need determined for the Child Care Subsidy?
The Child Care Subsidy is need-based funding. Eligibility is based on a formula including a student’s Cost of Attendance (including tuition and fees, housing and food, books, supplies, course materials and other equipment, personal and miscellaneous expenses, and incurred child care costs) or COA less contributions from income and assets and other sources of financial aid. For example, if a student has a COA of $25,000, a calculated contribution (or Student Aid Index) of $5,000, and $15,000 in total grants/scholarships awarded by their department, then the formula is as follows: $25,000 - $5,000 - $15,000 = $5,000 financial need. If funding in the program allows, the Child Care Subsidy could be awarded up to that $5,000 amount of financial need.
