I have a lease in Ann Arbor, but I'm studying abroad. Can I receive financial aid to pay my rent for my apartment in Ann Arbor while I am studying abroad?
Financial aid is available to help with living expenses, but not for two places at once. While you are on a study abroad program, only the costs associated with that program can be part of your financial aid budget. If you are unable to sublet your space in Ann Arbor or make other arrangements with the landlord while you are away, you should be prepared to pay those expenses out-of-pocket. You cannot receive financial aid to maintain an apartment or other expenses not relevant to your study abroad program.
