By default, Canvas sites apply the University-set Term dates. While students can view their course for as long as it's open, they will note be able to submit work (such as Assignments, Quizzes, Canvas Discussions, etc) outside of those dates.
In order to change this, most often to allow students to correct an Incomplete grade, Instructors will need to modify the Course Participation Dates.
1. Navigate to your Canvas course at canvas.it.umich.edu
2. Click 'Settings' in the left-hand course navigation menu
3. Check that you're on the 'Course Details' tab located at the top of the page
4. Locate the 'Participation' Settings
5. Change 'Term' to 'Course'. This will override the University-set Term dates.
6. Use the Start and End Date fields below to adjust the dates as needed. Note that leaving the End Date blank will allow students to participate indefinitely.
7. Scroll to the bottom of the page to click 'Update Course Details' to save your changes.
