Remotely connect to SPH Windows from a Home MacOSX computer

Contact SPH Computing Services (sph.help@umich.edu) to configure your computer to accept remote connections.

Prerequisites

• Your 'Computer Name' (SPH-000001-DEPT)
• A powered on computer (not asleep, or shutdown)
• Latest version of 'Microsoft Remote Desktop'
• University of Michigan - Mac OS X VPN

Connect to VPN

1. Connect to the University of Michigan VPN - using the 'VPN dropdown' from the menu bar, or 'System Preferences' -> 'Networking' (shown below):
   
   

Connect to Computer

1. Run the 'Microsoft Remote Desktop' application and select 'New':
   
   
    
2. Enter the following in the 'PC Name' field:
   
   
   COMPUTERNAME.ddns.sph.umich.edu
    
3. Close the 'Edit' window and double click on the new 'Connection' name:
   
   
4. If you see the following warning - it is safe to click 'Continue':
   
   
    
5. After connecting - you will be presented with the Windows 'Lock Screen'.
   Log in like you would to a workstation PC to begin your remote desktop session.
