The Discussions/Announcements Redesign feature preview provides an updated, cleaner interface for course discussions in Canvas and a slightly modified layout for Announcements. It is not enabled by default at this time, but instructors can choose to enable it at any time on a course-by-course basis.

In the original Discussions view, all posts and replies are displayed in one long list, which can quickly become overwhelming with large discussions.

The Discussions Redesign collapses discussions so that only replies to the original forum prompt are displayed initially.

You can then click on the link with the number of replies which will open a side panel that displays replies to that particular post.

Enable the Redesign

To enable the Discussion/Announcements Redesign:

1. Access your course in Canvas.
2. Go to Settings on the course menu.
3. At the top, click on the Feature Options tab.
   
4. Click on the red circle/red X icon to the right of Discussions/Announcements Redesign and select Enabled. The icon will then change to a green circle with a check mark to indicate it is enabled.
