Awarding Certificates of Completion

If you would like a certificate of completion to be issued for your Canvas Catalog workshop or course, it is critical that you are aware of the certificate requirements used by this learning management system. Unlike other LMS platforms that will issue a certificate based on a final grade, Catalog requires that all course content related to the certificate requirements are contained in modules. Further, it also requires the content to be completed in a sequential order.

If these settings are not put in place, the storefront certificates will not be issued.

We recommend using the course landing page as a brief welcome and overview that then directs the students to the modules. You may even wish to notify them that their certificate of completion is dependent upon them completing the modules in sequential order; this will hopefully prevent them from skipping around the content and preventing the certificate from being issued.

The next step is to build your course within the modules. If you need guidance on how to create a module, please refer to the Instructure Overview dedicated to this topic.

Finally, you will need to edit the module(s).

Once you have opened the settings panel, you must select the radial option "Students must complete all of these requirements" and the additional requirement of "Students must move through requirements in sequential order." Then you must add each of the module elements to the list of requirements and qualify the type of activity required for each. In the example below, you can see the must first view the item for the Welcome section contained in the module.

If your workshop or course has more than one module, you will also need to edit the following modules using the same guidelines.
