Table of Contents

Set Up Canvas

  1. Login to your course and navigate to the Settings link on your course menu.
  2. Enable the Grading Scheme option to automatically assign letter grades to percentages.
  3. Once you enable the course grading scheme option, a drop-down menu and a View/Edit button will appear. Click View/Edit
  4. The Default Grading Scheme will load in a new box. Click the Edit a Copy icon in the top right.
  5. Name the scheme and update it to match your grading scale by setting the lower bound for each letter grade.
Note: If you want grades to round up to the nearest percent, set the lower bound 0.5% lower. For instance if 94% is the minimum for an A but you would like to round grades up, set the lower bound to 93.5%.
Click Save to save the scheme.
  6. To apply your new grading scheme, click the Update Course Details button at the bottom of the Settings page.
  7. Now that the Grade Scheme is configured, click the Grades link in your course to navigate to your gradebook.
  8. Notice that the Total column has been modified to include the letter grade.
  9. If needed, grades can be overridden by clicking on the settings icon in the upper right hand corner of your window and then select Allow Final Grade Override, followed by Apply Settings.

  10. After turning on Grade Override, you will see a new Override column where you can edit individual grades.
