Overview NameCoach is a web-based tool that allows users to record, listen to, and learn names. It has two parts: NameCoach Recorder, that allows users to record their own name, and NameCoach Roster, that allows students and instructors to listen to and learn the names of others in a Canvas course. It promotes the university’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiative, and fosters a more inclusive learning environment. Record Your Name in Canvas Account Profile Login to Canvas. Select Account in the top left. Select NameCoach Recording from the list of options. There are 3 options for recording: Phone: Enter your phone number to record your name over an automated phone call (if you are using a US phone number, make sure to include 1 in front of the US phone number). Web Recorder: Record your name using your device's web browser and microphone. Uploader: You can upload a file of your name that you have already saved (Note: Only .mp3 and .wav file formats are accepted of the audio file via this option. Click Submit to save the recording. You only need to record your name once and it will apply to all your Canvas courses that are using NameCoach. NameCoach Roster Your recording is available in each of your Canvas courses in the NameCoach Roster located on the course navigation menu. The NameCoach Roster page offers multiple tools and options. Record Name: Click the Record Name button to add your recording or click Update to re-record. Phonetic Spelling: Click Update to add a phonetic spelling of your name after recording. (See Phonetic Spelling Guide for help) Listen to Course Users' Recordings: In the Name Pronunciation column, click the blue button with the person's name to hear their recording.
