Adding the Maizey User

When preparing a Maizey project using the Canvas connector, you will need to enroll a special account in your course which allows Maizey to index the content in your course so that students can ask questions to the generative AI tool about your course.

To add this user:

  1. Go to People in your course menu.
  2. Click +People in the upper right.
  3. Choose Login ID at the top, type in the username itsaistu, and choose the Observer role. You can change this role later if desired, but initially it MUST be set to Observer.

Important: The content to which Maizey has access is dependent on the role you give the itsaistu account. We recommend either TA or Observer depending on your preferences.

    • TA: The TA role would allow Maizey access to all course content regardless of date settings or published status. It does not give it access to quiz questions, grades, or user information. A benefit of this role is that you would not need to re-index your Maizey project unless you add new content to the course.
    • Observer: The Observer role is effectively a student role. Maizey would only see content that students can see. While this is more secure if you don't want students to have any access to future content, it does require you to re-index your Maizey project every time new content becomes available to students in the course.
  4. Click Next at the bottom, then Add Users if it looks correct.
