Google: Storage Usage Not Decreasing After Deleting Data

Environment

UM Google

Issue

I have deleted a lot of data, but my Google storage usage isn't going down.

Resolution

Once you have deleted your data from Google, they will be sent to your Trash. Data in Trash will be automatically deleted after 30 days. However, data in Trash still count against your storage limit, so you should empty your Trash after deleting it.

To empty your entire Trash, click Empty trash in the top right of the Trash page and click Delete forever to confirm.

It may take several attempts to permanently delete the data in your Trash. Note that deleting a large number of data may cause an error, take a long time to update the interface to reflect your deletion, and/or require you to refresh multiple times. It is recommended to permanently delete your data in smaller batches if you have a significant number of them in your Trash.

To permanently delete individual data from Trash:

  1. Click Trash from the left navigation in Google
  2. Select the data you want to permanently delete
  3. Click the trash can icon in the top right
  4. Click Delete forever to confirm

Once emptied, storage space used should decrease in about 24 hours. However, if you have deleted a significant amount of data, it may take two or more days for Google to accurately report your new storage usage.
