How to Uninstall a Program in Windows 8, 10, or 11

This article will allow you to remove an unwanted program from any computer that uses Windows 11, 10, 8.1, or 8.

Intended Audience

This article is intended for faculty, staff, students, and alumni who would like to learn how to uninstall a program in Windows.

Requirements

To follow this article you will need to have a computer running Windows 11, 10, 8.1, or 8.

Uninstalling a Program from Windows 8 and 8.1:

1. Click the Start Button in the bottom left
   • You can also press the Windows key on your keyboard, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search
2. Type control panel in the search box, and then tap or click Control Panel
   • If you clicked the Start button or pressed the Windows key, just begin typing and a Search bar will appear, and then click Control Panel
3. Click Uninstall a Program under the Programs heading
4. Search for the program that you want to remove and click it
5. Click Uninstall from the options at the top of the list

The program will now prompt you to complete the steps for uninstalling that particular program.

Uninstalling a Program from Windows 10:

1. Right-click on the Windows icon in the lower-left of the screen
2. Click on Apps and Features at the top of the list
3. Search for the program that you want to remove and click it
4. Click Uninstall from the options at the bottom right of the selected program

The program will now prompt you to complete the steps for uninstalling that particular program.

Uninstalling a Program from Windows 11:

1. Right-click on the Windows icon in the lower-left of the screen
2. Click on Apps and Features at the top of the list
3. Search for the program that you want to remove and click the 3 vertical dots on the right-hand side. 
4. Click Uninstall from the options at the bottom of the context menu that appears.

The program will now prompt you to complete the steps for uninstalling that particular program.
