Gmail App Setup on Mobile Device

Intended Audience

This article is intended to assist current faculty, staff, alumni, and students with setting up the Gmail application on mobile devices.

Requirements

To follow this article you will need to have a current affiliation with the University and have access to your UM-Flint account. You will also need a mobile device with internet access and have Duo Two Factor Authentication enabled on the

device.

Downloading the Gmail application

Finding and downloading the Gmail app:

  1. Navigate to the "App Store" if you are on an iPhone or the "Play Store" for Android devices.
  2. Use the search function to search for the "Gmail application".
  3. Download and install the Gmail application to your mobile device.

Accessing your University email:

  1. Open the Gmail application.
  2. Click the "Sign in" button.
  3. Choose "Google" for the account type.
  4. Sign in with your uniqname@umich.edu and your current password.

 

Or if you already have a personal account setup:

 

  1. Open the Gmail application.
  2. Click the circular icon in the top-right. (It may have either an image or letters representing your name)
  3. Click "Add another account".
  4. This will open a menu called Set up email. Click Google to add a Google account.
  5. Sign in with your uniqname@umich.edu and your current password.

Duo Two Factor Authentication:

  1. Upon signing into the university email system, you will be prompted by Duo to choose a method of authentication.
  2. Once you choose and accept the authentication method, your university email will open.
