Your SIS Proxy Access User Account

This article will provide an informative overview of the SIS Proxy Access User Account, give the student instructions on how to create, maintain and delete a working SIS Proxy Access User Account and inform Proxy Users how to verify and confirm their accounts. It will also help students through the process that will allow the SIS Proxy Access User to access the student's SIS account information, and help the Proxy User understand how they can access the information they are allowed to access.

Intended Audience:

This article is for the benefit of students and Proxy Users that would like to:

  • Create an SIS Proxy Access User Account.
  • Learn how to maintain their Proxy User's access.
  • Inform Proxy Users how to set up their information.
  • Modify the privileges the SIS Proxy Access User has.
  • Send Proxy Users a detailed summary of the information they have been granted access to.
  • Access the information they were granted access to.

Requirements:

To follow this article you will need to have a current affiliation with the university and have access to your current account. You will need to have your registered Duo device to complete two-factor authentication. You will also need a working web browser of your choice, access to the Internet, and your SIS account or SIS Proxy Access User Account if you are a Proxy User.

What is SIS Proxy Access?

SIS Proxy Access empowers an attending student with the ability to provide a parent, legal guardian, or any other desired individual access to selected elements of the attending student's academic records here at the University of Michigan-Flint.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), requires the University of Michigan-Flint to make available to parents and/or eligible students for their academic records. The SIS Proxy Access User Account is in place to enhance the

University's compliance with those regulations.

What is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)?

FERPA Authorization for SIS Proxy Access:

Creating an SIS Proxy Access User Account will give the Proxy User access to personal and confidential information that is protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Before you can create a Proxy User account you will need to agree to the FERPA authorization terms. If you have not agreed to the FERPA authorization terms, when you log into SIS Proxy Access you will be directed to the FERPA authorization agreement.

 

 

After reading the FERPA authorization agreement, at the bottom of the agreement, click the box next to I Agree to the Above Terms and click the Submit button. Your FERPA authorization will then be recorded, and you will be directed to click to continue to SIS Proxy Access.

Before You Begin:

As A Student:

Please be aware that to make any changes to the SIS Proxy Access User Account you must be logged in to your SIS account. Follow these steps first before you attempt any other steps:

  1. Using any desired browser navigate to: https://sis.umflint.edu/
  2. Login using your uniqname and current password.
  3. Complete two-factor authentication using Duo.
  4. Using the tabs at the top of the page, click Proxy Access or, you may optionally, click the Proxy Access link which can be found at the bottom of the list on the Main Menu page.
  5. From the Proxy Access menu, click Proxy Management.

As A Proxy User:

There are no specific instructions before you begin, simply follow the instructions when prompted.

Adding an SIS Proxy Access User Account: [back]

These steps are for students that would like to add an SIS Proxy User. These steps will create a new entry in the Proxy List section.

  1. From the Proxy List click Add Proxy.
  2. In the text fields that appear type the desired information into the First Name, Last Name, and Email Address fields, and then re-enter the same email address into the Verify Email Address field to verify the email address. Then click the Add Proxy button.
  3. You will then see your Proxy User in the Proxy list. Your designated Proxy User will also receive an email informing them that they have been added to the Proxy List, they will also be asked to complete some further tasks before access is granted.
  4. From the Proxy List, click the yellow arrow to expand the Proxy User's details.
  5. On the Proxy Profile complete the following fields: Relationship, Description, Start Date, and End Date. Start dates and end dates allow the account holder to limit the Proxy User's access to specific semesters if they wish.

Setting Up Your SIS Proxy Access User Account as a Proxy User: [back]

These steps are for a designated recipient chosen by the student. Following these steps will verify the Proxy User's account information and confirm they are allowed to login to an SIS Proxy Access User Account.

  1. Check your email for an email from proxyaccessadmin@umflint.edu with the subject: New Proxy Identity. If you don't see it in your inbox be sure to check the spam folder.
  2. This email will contain a link and Action Password that will allow you to set up your SIS Proxy User Account. Please click the link inside the email.
  3. You will be taken to a webpage that will ask for your Action Password. In the text field type the auto-generated Action Password that was in the previous email and then click the Submit button.
  4. In the text fields that appear, type the requested information into the fields: Enter an email address, Enter old PIN (this will be the Action Password used previously), Enter a new PIN, Validate PIN, then click the Save button.
  5. Confirm your profile information is correct, then click the Save button.

Modify SIS Proxy Access User Account Privileges: [back]

These steps will help students modify the information about the student's account their Proxy User has access to.

  1. From the Proxy List, click the yellow arrow next to the Proxy User's name to expand the Proxy User's details.
  2. From the expanded profile, click the Authorization tab.
  3. From the Page Authorization menu, check the items that you would like to share with your Proxy User. These changes are saved automatically.

Sending Your Proxy User a List of Authorizations Via Email: [back]

These steps will help a student send their Proxy User a summary of the information they have been granted access to.

  1. From the Proxy List, click the yellow arrow next to the Proxy User's name to expand the Proxy User's details.
  2. From the tabs under the Proxy User's name click the Authorization tab.
  3. The Page Authorization Menu will appear. On the right, you will see an icon of a letter, click E-mail Authorizations.
  4. Your Proxy User will be sent a summary of the information they are allowed to access.

Viewing Student Information in SIS Proxy Access as a Proxy User: [back]

These steps will help the Proxy User log into the SIS Proxy Access User Account and view the information they were granted access to.

Logging Into SIS Proxy Access:

 

  1. Using any desired browser navigate to: proxypay.umflint.edu.
  2. Select the "Authorized User" button.
  3. On the Proxy Access, Login page type your email address and PIN and click the login button.

 

 

Accessing Student Information in SIS Proxy Access:

 

  1. From the Proxy Access Home page, click on the tab with the name of the student you wish to see records for.
  2. You will then see a list of Proxy Authorizations.
  3. Click on the item that you would like to see.

Resending SIS Proxy Access User Account activation link: [back]

These steps are for students that would like to resend the Proxy User Account activation link.

  1. From the Proxy List, click the yellow arrow to expand the Proxy User's details.
  2. Click the Communication tab.
  3. Locate the communication log with the Subject: New Proxy Identity.
  4. Click the icon of the letter in the resend column. This icon can be found in the same row as the New proxy identity communication log.
  5. The Proxy User will receive an email containing a temporary PIN and link which they may then use to create their Proxy User Account.

Resetting SIS Proxy Access PIN: [back]

These steps are for students that would like to reset their SIS Proxy User's PIN, or for Proxy User's that have forgotten their PINs and need to have them reset.

Resetting SIS Proxy Access PIN as Student:

 

  1. From the Proxy List click the yellow arrow to expand the Proxy User's details.
  2. Click Reset PIN located near the bottom of the Proxy User's profile.
  3. The page will refresh and state that an email has been sent to the Proxy User.
  4. The Proxy User will receive an email containing a temporary PIN.

Resetting SIS Proxy Access PIN as a Proxy User:

 

  1. Using any desired browser navigate to: https://sis.umflint.edu/
  2. Login with your uniqname and current password. Then navigate to the Proxy Access tab in SIS.
  3. Enter or choose the email address associated with your Proxy User Account.
  4. Click the Forgot PIN button.
  5. An email will be sent to the address entered in the email field.
  6. Check your email for an email from proxyaccessadmin@umflint.edu with the subject Send proxy PIN reset request. If you don't see it in your inbox be sure to check the spam folder.
  7. Click on the link generated in the email. This will take you to the PIN reset form.
  8. Enter the auto-generated PIN from the email into the Action Password field.
  9. Enter your email address, the PIN you received in the reset PIN email, create and enter your new PIN in the first Enter New PIN field, and then validate your new PIN by typing it again in the Validate PIN field.
  10. Click the Save button.

Deleting an SIS Proxy Access User Account: [back]

These steps are for students who would like to remove a Proxy User from the Proxy List. Following these steps will revoke any access the Proxy User had to the student's information.

  1. From the Proxy List click the yellow arrow to expand the Proxy User's details.
  2. Click Delete Proxy Relationship.
  3. A pop-up will appear asking: Are you sure you want to delete this Proxy relationship?
  4. Click Ok. The Proxy User has been deleted from the proxy list.
