Your SIS Proxy Access User Account

This article is a basic overview of the SIS Proxy Access feature where Students can authorize Proxy User(s) to view their academic records.

Intended Audience:

This article is for the benefit of students and Proxy Users.

Requirements:

To follow this article, you need to have a current affiliation with the university and have access to your SIS Account or SIS Proxy Account.
A registered Duo device and access to the Internet is also required.

What is SIS Proxy Access?

SIS proxy accounts enable authorized users to access a student's educational records contained in the Student Information System (SIS) at the University of Michigan-Flint. The student administers authorizations to access the student's academic records.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), requires the University of Michigan-Flint to make available to parents and/or eligible students for their academic records. The SIS Proxy Access User Account is in place to enhance the university's compliance with those regulations.

How Students Add a Proxy User:

  1. Using any desired browser navigate to: https://sis.umflint.edu/
  2. Log in using your uniqname and current password.
  3. Complete two-factor authentication using Duo.
  4. From the Main Menu, select  Proxy Access, and click Proxy Management. The screen below will be displayed.


 

  1. To add a new proxy access user, Click the Add New button.
  2. Next, please provide the required information and the authorizations for the new proxy user (Shown Below).




     
  3. Next, click the Submit button. The proxy user you added should be displayed in the dialog box below.

 

Modify SIS Proxy Access User Account Privileges: 

These steps will help students modify the information about the student's account their Proxy User has access to.

  1. From the Proxy Management screen, click the pencil icon next to the Proxy User's name.
  2. From the Proxy Information page, the proxy user's password can be reset and any authorizations can be modified. 
    Note: You can send the proxy user an email notification informing them of any access changes by clicking the E-mail Authorizations link near the bottom of the page.
  3. Once the modifications have been made, click the Submit button to save the changes.
     


 

Reset Password or Resend a Communication to a Proxy User: 

These steps are for students who want to resend the Proxy User communication
or reset the proxy user's password.

  1. From the Proxy Management screen (Shown Below), click on Communication.
  2. Next, click the Envelope icon.
  3. Click the letter icon in the resend column. 
  4. The communication will be sent to the proxy user's email address.
  5. To reset a proxy user's password click on Reset Password.
     



What is a Proxy Passphrase?
A passphrase is a phrase shared between the student and the proxy that only they'd know.
When a proxy contacts the university on the student's behalf, the passphrase will be used to verify the proxy's identity.  


Adding a Passphrase for the Proxy User: 

  1. From the Proxy Information screen enter a Passphrase.
  2. Scroll down and click the Submit button.
  3. To email the Passphrase to the Proxy User, Click the Pencil icon under the Proxy User.
  4. Next, click the E-mail PassPhrase link.
  5. The Proxy User will receive an email containing the PassPhrase.
     

 

Deleting an SIS Proxy Access User Account: 

These steps are for students who want to remove a Proxy User from the Proxy List. Following these steps will revoke any access the Proxy User had to the student's information.

  1. From the Proxy Management screen, click the Trash Can icon to expand the Proxy User's details.
  2. Click Delete Proxy Relationship.
  3. A pop-up will appear asking: Are you sure you want to delete this Proxy relationship?
  4. Click Ok. The Proxy User has been deleted from the proxy list.

 

Proxy User Account Verification: 

When the student adds a person as a proxy user, the proxy user will receive three emails. One email will be a notification informing the proxy user of the permission(s) that have been granted to them. The second email will contain a temporary password and the third email will contain a temporary URL that leads to a webpage where the temporary password can be changed. Note: This URL can only be used once and is active only for five days. If you miss this window of opportunity, your student can resend you the link and temporary password. Once you have completed this verification process you can view the student's information.

 

Viewing Student Information in SIS as a Proxy User: 

These steps will help the Proxy User log into the SIS Proxy Access User Account and view the information they were granted access to.

Logging Into SIS Proxy Access:

  1. Using any desired browser navigate to: go.umflint.edu/proxyaccess.
  2. Sign in using your email address and password.

 


Accessing Student Information in SIS As a Proxy User:

  1. Click the Drop-Down arrow in the "I am a proxy for this user:" section to select
    the information you wish to view. (Shown Below).

     


 

Reset Password as a Proxy User: 

  1. Navigate to go.umflint.edu/proxyaccess.
  2. Enter the username (email) and click the Forgot Password link.
  3. A web page link will be sent to your email address.
  4. The link will take you to a webpage where you can reset your password.
