This Report

The FY Planned Giving Production Report provides a summary of all planned gift transactions recorded in the U-M Fundraising system from their original point of entry.

Why use this report?

Use this report if you need to access a comprehensive summary of planned gift transactions—such as bequests—recorded at their original point of entry to ensure stable, non-duplicated fiscal reporting.

E.g. Count the total value of bequests booked by the College of Engineering in FY25 without including any subsequent cash payments that would inflate the production totals.

If the report is taking too long to run, schedule the report (see above).

Prompts

You then need to set the prompts. (Prompts act as questions that help you to customize the information in a report to suit your own needs!)

Below are the available prompts (with explanation) —

Fiscal Year Parameters (Required)

Answer the following prompts to define the specific fiscal year range for the revenue report.

• Enter Revenue FY(Start)

  • Enter the first FY you want the report to run for. 

  • E.g., 2023

• Enter Revenue FY(End)

  • Enter the last FY you want the report to run for.

  • E.g., 2026

Revenue Date and Organizational Filters (Optional)

Answer the following prompts to restrict results based on gift entry dates or specific organizational hierarchies.

• Enter Ending Revenue Added Date

  • To restrict report to gifts added on or before a specified date.

  • E.g., 06/30/2025

• Select SCU Rollup

  • To limit results to a specific SCU.

  • E.g., College of Engineering

• Select VP Area Rollup

  • To limit results to a specific VP Area.

  • E.g., EVPMA

• Select Campus Rollup

  • To limit results to a specific campus.

  • E.g., Dearborn Campus

Report Tabs

There are 11 report tabs:

• FY Production by FY

  • Shows FY Production totals, by Fiscal Year if multiple are selected, in the 4 major categories and 9 sub-categories with totals

  • Provides high-level annual snapshots of production health across primary gift classifications

• FY Production by FY, Month

  • Shows FY Production totals by Fiscal year and Fiscal month

  • Allows for time-series analysis and tracking progress against monthly goals or historical trends

• FY Production by FY, Purpose

  • Shows FY Production totals by Purpose Category, eg Discretionary - Dean's Discretionary; Student Support - Need-based Scholarships

  • Categorizes production based on the donor's intent and the ultimate use of the funds

• FY Prod by Detailed Site

  • Shows FY Production totals down to the departmental level

  • Provides granular reporting for specific campus units, though not all sites will contain sub-departmental data

• LIA Detail

  • All Transactions counted in the "Life Income Agreements" columns

  • Lists the specific gift records for instruments such as gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts

• PG Funds-in-Trust

  • All Transactions counted in the "Other" column, includes Charitable Lead Annuity Trusts and Charitable Lead Unitrust gifts

  • Details specialized planned giving vehicles where the University may not be the immediate trustee

• Life Ins Detail

  • All Transactions counted in the "Life Insurance" column

  • Values reported are the face value or recognition amount for the policies; note that standard reports typically use revenue value

• Bequest Expectancy

  • All transactions counted in the "Unreported Realized Bequests-No Prior Knowledge" column

  • Details realized bequests that were not previously tracked in the system until the distribution of estate money began

• Retirement Plan Asset

  • All transactions counted in the "Realized Bequests-Greater Than Expected" column

  • Details bequest distributions received that exceeded the original documented intention or estimate

• Matured Bequests

  • A list of all bequests that matured during the same time period as the production report

  • Provides a summary of completed estate gifts; these numbers cannot be combined with production totals to avoid double-counting

• Open Bequests

  • A list of all Bequests and Retirement Plan Assets with a status of Accepted

  • Shows the pipeline of future expected estate commitments currently documented in the system
