Custom Views in Tableau Server

Tags Tableau

A Custom View in Tableau Server is a “personalized” version of a Tableau dashboard or worksheet that you can create based on a set of filters or selections. If you create a custom view, you can easily access your saved configuration without repeating the filters and selections.

Examples of how this may be useful for you:

  • Set the Stages dashboard so that you have a pre-built view where you are the fundraiser, without having to re-apply the filters each time.

  • Set the Look to Michigan Campaign Reporting dashboard so that you have a pre-built view of your SCCU.

To create a custom view, navigate to the Tableau dashboard.

  1. Set up the filters and any selections you’d like.

  2. In the blue header bar, select the “Save Custom View” option.

  3. Fill in the Custom View prompts: Name it, decide whether it will be your default view of the dashboard (i.e., will that be the view you see when you open the dashboard), and whether this is a public / shared view.  Then Save.

  4. To see your custom view, select “View: [View Name]“ in the blue header bar. You can change your view to another custom view, or back to the original view.

Custom views are also really useful in conjunction with Subscriptions!
