How do I link a Lecture Recording site with a Canvas course site?

Linking a Lecture Recording site with a Canvas course site is the simplest way to make all published recordings available to enrolled students. 

Note: If a Lecture Recording site has not yet been created for your course, you will need to submit a request before proceeding:

Engineering Spaces: Request a Lecture Recording site via our About the Lecture Recording Service page.
LSA Spaces: Visit our Lecture Recording Service page to learn more about the system, make any requests, or access an up-to-date list of LSA-supported classrooms equipped with the service (http://myumi.ch/7ZM0B).

To link your Lecture Recording site to an existing Canvas course site, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Canvas course site, and click the Settings menu.
  2. Click the Navigation tab, and enable Lecture Recordings.
  3. Click Save at the bottom of the page.
  4. Go to the new Lecture Recordings navigation link on the left menu (likely at the bottom of the list) to finish linking your course.
    On occasion, the default selection in Canvas will be incorrect, so be sure that the course name AND term of the suggested site matches what is needed.

If you need to add an additional Lecture Recording site, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the CAEN Lecture Recording Management website.
  2. Click Site Info on the additional site you would like to link to your Canvas course site.
  3. Locate the Canvas Placements box, and then click the + Place recordings in a Canvas course site button.
  4. Choose the Canvas Site from the drop-down list. (If your Canvas course site does not appear in the list, contact your Lecture Recording administrator.)
  5. Enter a descriptive title in the Tab Name; this will appear in the left-hand Navigation tabs of your Canvas course site.
  6. Click the Add Placement button.


The lecture recording site should now be linked in your Canvas course site. You can remove the recording site in Canvas by clicking the red X next to it in the menu.
