What is AFS?

The Andrew File System (AFS) is distributed file system comprised of file servers and clients which allows many computers to share files over a network. A file server stores files that other computers, or clients, need to access.

At the University of Michigan, students, faculty, and staff are eligible to obtain AFS Personal Storage from ITS. This is used as the default home directory on CAEN Linux computers to store files and run software applications.
