How much network bandwidth will I need to use campus resources from home?

First, test your home network connection speeds. CAEN recommends using the U-M Speedtest website.

Bandwidth requirements will differ depending on the campus service you are using, and the range of capabilities it offers. Below you will find a table of minimum recommended connection speeds for some common U-M services used at the College of Engineering. Where available, click the speed listed in the table for further information on how network requirements may vary:

Service Minimum Recommended Network Speed
U-M Zoom 800 Kbps/1 Mbps (up/down)
U-M Google Meet 1 Mbps/1 Mbps (up/down)
U-M Microsoft Teams 1.2 Mbps/1.2 Mbps (up/down)
CAEN Lecture Recording Service (Student remote viewing) 1.5 Mbps
CAEN Windows Remote Desktop (VMware Horizon Client) 1 Mbps
CAEN Linux Remote Login (VNC Client) 1 Mbps
