Overview

Here is our guide with using hardware here at the School of Nursing.

Application Configurations

Here is our list of applications we would like to have you log into:

  • Google Chrome - This will sync your bookmarks and allow you to quickly log into other applications

    • Open Chrome > Click the Profile icon in the top-right corner > Click Sign in to Chrome
    • Use your '@umich.edu' email address as the username
    • Log into the WebLogin screen with your lvl1 credentials
    • Then be sure to allow Sync
  • Adobe - This will give you Adobe Professional
    • Start Adobe
    • If it prompts you to remove a device (max 2 devices with adobe) then remove your oldest computer.
    • Log in using the Google account button, using your '@umich.edu' email address. Chrome will pass your credentials to Adobe
    • Allow Adobe to be the default PDF service (this option will pop up soon after logging into Adobe)
  • Dropbox - This tool speeds up the process of uploading and downloading files through Dropbox, and instead simulates Dropbox as a folder on your computer
    • Open Dropbox and step through to log in
    • Authenticate using your Google account (chrome will pass down your credentials after selecting that option)
    • Allow your organization to administrate your machine
    • How to use the Dropbox sync app
  • Zoom - Primary Video Conferencing
    • Open Zoom and select Sign in
    • Select "SSO" log in, that will open up chrome to pass back down his credentials
  • Outlook - Primary Email Account
    • Open Outlook and use your '@med.umich.edu' email
    • log in using your lvl 2 password when prompted

'M' Software Menu

In the bottom right corner of your computer by the time there is an application that has some useful features you should be familiar with. Press the Michigan 'M' to open the menu.

Here are the important ones to know:

  • Serial Number - In case you need to quickly find your computer's serial number
  • Windows OS Version - Also, in case you need to know what version of Windows you are running.
  • Stay Awake - Normally our Computers go to sleep after 15 minutes, this extends that to 8 hours
  • Lock Screen - Locks your computer for security reasons. Requires ctrl-alt-del log back in
  • ITS Service Status Page - Quick page to see if there are any known outages
  • MPrint Printer Installer - To Install on campus printers
  • Software Center - Our suite for user-side software installs.

Additional Software

Additional Software can be installed using the Software Center (Windows) / Managed Software Center (Macs) application on your computer.

Here are the directions on how to install and use our software:

Our Department is part of the ITAM consortium, which gives us licenses to common software. If given the choice between the same software that says ITAM and BYOL (Bring your own License) please choose ITAM so the software works correctly.
