U-M Slack Guest Account Communication Capabilities

Issue

How can internal users (members) of U-M Slack communicate with external users (guests)?

Resolution

At this time, people external to the University of Michigan can only be added to U-M Slack workspaces as single-channel guests. Multi-channel guest accounts are currently unavailable.

Single-channel guests are restricted to a single channel within a workspace. This is the only way they are able to communicate with a group of people within U-M Slack. They will not have access to any other channels within the workspace.

Single-channel guests can communicate via Direct Message (DM). Single-channel guests can receive a DM from any member within the workspace, even if that member is not in the same channel; however, single-channel guests can only start a DM with members of the channel they are in.
