Summary
Captions display issues with YouTube videos added to Kaltura MiVideo My Media, Mediaspace, Canvas, and how to address them.
Body
Environment
MiVideo Mediaspace with legacy players
Issue
Applies only to Mediaspaces with legacy players
If the YouTube video has captions on YouTube, the captions display in the MiVideo/Kaltura player is controlled by the viewer's personal YouTube settings. This has the following results:
- YouTube captions may not display in the MiVideo/Kaltura player.
- If Kaltura captions are added to the YouTube pass-through video, double or overlapping captions may display in the Kaltura player.
Resolution
To ensure captions are always available for viewers, MiVideo/Kaltura captions should ordered. Any YouTube videos added to your My Media after 4/22/2024 will automatically be machine captioned. For videos added prior to 4/22/2024 or are in language other than English, the media owner or co-editor should request captions.
If double captions are displaying, the viewer is advised to either disable the Kaltura captions using the CC button in the player, or disable the YouTube captions by going to YouTube and changing their captions display preference.
