MiVideo: Create Playlists in Canvas and Mediaspace

Summary

This document will instruct users on how to create a personal or channel/gallery playlist in MiVideo. Once a playlist is created, media can be added for viewing.

Playlists organize media into easy to browse collections so viewers don’t have to search to find related media. Multiple playlists can be created and the position media appear in the playlist can be ordered. See related Playlist articles for more information about these compilations.

Issue

How to create a Canvas Media Gallery playlist, Mediaspace channel playlist, or Mediaspace personal playlist. Once a playlist is created media can be added for viewing in the player.

Canvas: Media Gallery Playlist

Create a Media Gallery playlist that is visible to everyone within a Canvas course. See related Media Gallery articles for more information about using Media Gallery.

Teachers, TAs, and designers can create a Media Gallery playlist.

  1. Navigate to the Media Gallery > Channel Actions  > Create channel playlist.
  2. Enter a Title, Description, and add Tags as necessary. The system does not prevent duplicate playlist names.
  3. In the left column is the Add Items to Your Playlist list and the right column displays the media item(s) currently in your Playlist.
    • Note: Videos with an IVQ (Interactive Video Quiz) cannot be published to a playlist, these videos will not display in the Add Items to Your Playlist list.
  4. The currently viewed library on the left can be changed from My Media to Media Gallery by clicking the drop down menu.
  5. The Search for Media box provides a search for words in playlist names, tags, or both. After entering a search term press Enter.
  6. To add media, click the "+" button to the right of the media entry. The button will turn into a check mark. The media item will appear in the right Playlist column.
  7. To reorder the playlist, click the double lines next to the media item and drag the media to the desired position in the list. Notice that the order number changes to reflect the new position.
  8. Click Go to Media Gallery when done.
    • Note: Any media added directly to a Media Gallery playlist will automatically be published to the Media Gallery if not already.

Mediaspace: Channel Playlist

Create a playlist for a channel in a Mediaspace. See related Channel articles for more information about these collections.

Only channel managers can create a channel playlist.

  1. Navigate to the user drop-down menu > My Channels > edit pencil icon > Playlists tab > Create Channel Playlist.
  2. Enter a Title, Description, and add Tags as necessary. The system does not prevent duplicate playlist names.
  3. In the left column is the Add Items to Your Playlist list. The right column displays the media item(s) currently in your Playlist.
    • Note: Videos with an IVQ (Interactive Video Quiz) cannot be published to a playlist. These videos will not display in the Add Items to Your Playlist list.
  4. The currently viewed library on the left can be changed from My Media to the channel by clicking the drop down menu.
  5. The Search for Media box provides a search for words in playlist names, tags, or both. After entering a search term press Enter.
  6. To add media click the "+" button to the right of the media. The button will turn into a check mark. The media item will appear in the right Playlist column

Mediaspace: Personal Playlist

Only you can create personal playlists for yourself.

  1. Navigate to the user drop-down menu > My Playlists Create Playlist.
  2. Enter a Title, Description, and add Tags as necessary.​​​​​​​ The system does not prevent duplicate playlist names.
  3. In the left column is the Add Items to Your Playlist list. The right column displays the media item(s) currently in your Playlist.
    • Note: Videos with an IVQ (Interactive Video Quiz) cannot be published to a playlist. These videos will not display in the Add Items to Your Playlist list.
  4. The currently viewed library on the left can be changed from My Media to "All shared content" (media you have access to) by clicking the drop down menu.
  5. The Search for Media box provides a search for words in playlist names, tags, or both. After entering a search term press Enter.
  6. To add media click the "+" button to the right of the media. The button will turn into a check mark. The media item will appear in the right Playlist column
  7. To reorder the playlist, click the double lines next to the media item and drag the media to the desired position in the list. Notice that the order number changes to reflect the new position.
  8. Click Create when done.
