Resolution

Join by phone only

  1. Dial an in-country number listed in your meeting/webinar invitation, or use one from the full list of Zoom dial-in numbers.
    • To find the full list of numbers:
      1. Sign in at U-M Zoom.
      2. Click Settings from the left navigation menu.
      3. Click the Audio Conferencing tab.
      4. Click See all numbers under the "Toll Call" section.
        • Note: Toll-free numbers are not available in U-M Zoom.
      5. Select a number for the United States.
    • For meetings/webinars you host, you can select the countries/regions for which global dial-in numbers will always appear in your meeting/webinar invites.
      • You can also set this on a per-meeting/webinar basis within your meeting/webinar's settings (Edit > click the pencil icon beside "Dial from United States and other [#} country" in the Audio section > select your desired countries/regions and click Save.)
  2. Enter the meeting ID from the meeting/webinar invitation when prompted, followed by the pound key (#).
    • If the meeting/webinar has not started yet and the "Join before host" setting is not enabled, you will be prompted to enter the host key to start the meeting, or to press the pound (#) key to wait if you are a participant.
  3. You do not need to enter a participant ID; press the pound (#) key to continue. (This only applies if you have joined on a computer or mobile device already or are a panelist in a webinar.)
  4. You may be prompted to enter the meeting passcode, followed by the pound key (#). The passcode should be included in the meeting/webinar invitation.

You should now be in the meeting/webinar. Phone controls using the keypad include:

  • *6 - Toggle mute/unmute
  • *9 - Raise/lower hand

Use phone audio during an active meeting/webinar

You can join a meeting/webinar using the desktop app for video and screen sharing, but use your phone as the audio source instead of your computer.

  1. Join the active meeting/webinar from your Zoom desktop app.
  2. Click the caret icon next to Audio in the bottom toolbar.
  3. Select Switch to phone audio.
  4. Dial the number Zoom provides you on your phone.
  5. Follow the prompts by entering the meeting and participant IDs provided by Zoom in the desktop app.

To switch back to computer audio, end the phone call. (You will remain in the meeting, and your audio source will switch automatically back to your computer.)

Note: You cannot call yourself (also known as the "call me" feature) to join audio for a meeting/webinar by phone.

Join by phone using the Zoom mobile app

Install the Zoom Workplace mobile app, sign in to U-M Zoom, and join the meeting/webinar from the app.
