Issue
I cannot use the standalone Windows "Voice Typing" feature on my MiWorkspace Windows computer because it is disabled by security policy.
Resolution
Use Windows Voice Access instead of the standalone Voice Typing feature.
Set up Voice Access
This includes downloading the necessary language files and selecting your audio input device.
- In the Start menu, select Settings > Accessibility > Speech.
- Turn on the Voice access switch.
Tip: If you want to automatically launch voice access every time you start your computer, select the “Start voice access before you sign in to your PC” or “Start voice access after you sign into your PC” checkboxes.
- When initially setting up Voice Access, after turning on the switch, you will be prompted to select a language and microphone to complete the setup:
- Shortly after the initial setup, an automatic update to the language files may occur:
- At this point, voice access is ready to use. As long as a default microphone is selected, you can exit setup and start using voice access immediately. When voice access is active, you’ll see the Voice access bar at the top of your screen.
Use Voice Access
Voice access allows you to perform hands-free PC navigation and typing, similar to the disabled Voice Typing feature.
- If the Voice access bar is not visible at the top of your screen, in the Start menu, type "Voice access" to quickly locate and launch the app.
- The Voice access bar will appear at the top of your screen.

Voice access is a feature in Windows 11 that enables everyone to control their PC and author text using only their voice and without an internet connection. For example, you can open and switch between apps, browse the web, and read and author email using your voice.
