Issue

How to use the Okta Verify One-Time Password (OTP) option for multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Resolution

An Okta One-Time Password (OTP) is a temporary 6-digit code generated in the Okta Verify mobile app. The code updates automatically every 30 seconds, with a progress bar at the top of the app indicating when the next refresh will occur.

  1. On the Okta Sign-In screen, enter your uniqname or email address (if prompted) and click Next.
  2. Enter your UMICH password (if prompted) and click Verify.
  3. Select the Okta Verify - Enter a code option.

Note: If the Enter a code option does not display, click Verify with something else and then select it.

  1. Open the Okta Verify mobile app and tap the eye icon on your account to display the six-digit code.

Additional Information

Note: If the code refreshes in the app while you are entering it on the Okta sign-in screen, you can still try to verify using the original code. If you forget the original code or receive an error, use the new code to verify.
