Issue
How to sign in with Okta or choose a different Okta multi-factor authentication (MFA) method at sign-in if you’ve previously set up more than one.
Resolution
Sign in with Okta
Complete the following steps when presented with the Okta Sign-in screen.
- Enter your uniqname, and then click Next. You can skip this step if Okta already recognizes your account.
- Enter your UMICH password, and then click Verify. You can skip this step if Okta already recognizes your account.
- If your default MFA method does not automatically prompt you, select one from the list that displays and complete MFA.
Choose a Different MFA Method
If you’ve previously set up more than one Okta MFA method, you can choose a different one on the Okta Sign In page.
- Enter your uniqname on the Okta Sign In page and click Next.
- You can skip this step if Okta already recognizes your account.
- Click one of the MFA options that display.
- Close any additional pop-ups, if applicable.
- Click Verify with something else and select one of the MFA options that display.
If you choose the Okta Verify - Get a push notification option, you will receive push notifications to all devices. If this is not desirable, choose Okta Verify - Enter a code (see more at Sign in With an Okta Verify Code).
If signing in from a computer where you have set up the Okta Verify desktop application or FastPass, you may only be prompted to use that instance of Okta. You will need to fully quit the desktop application in order to use other Okta MFA devices you have enrolled.
