Issue

Why is "shared-account-owner@umich.edu" (Shared Account Owner) an owner of the MCommunity group associated with my Shared Account? Can I remove it?

Resolution

The ITS Shared Account Owner (shared-account-owner@umich.edu) is added to all MCommunity groups associated with a Google Shared Account and is necessary for the lifecycle management of the account. This includes enumerating the ownership between the ITS Shared Account Manager tool and MCommunity. This information is used to ensure every Shared Account has eligible owners (i.e., faculty and regular staff) assigned across the account's lifetime.

Although MCommunity group owners can remove the ITS Shared Account Owner from their groups, they are strongly advised against it. If you remove the owner from your group, it will be automatically added back within 24 hours. Owners of the Shared Account will receive an automated email stating that shared-account-owner@umich.edu has been re-added.

The ITS Shared Account Owner does not access or monitor your Shared Account's content. As with other collaboration services (e.g., U-M Slack), this data is only accessed in accordance with the university policy on Privacy and the Need to Monitor and Access Records (SPG 601.11).
