Issue

I have joined a Slack workspace unrelated to U-M Slack or the U-M Slack Enterprise Grid. How do I leave it permanently?

Resolution

Note: These instructions are for external, non-UM workspaces only. For information on how to leave a U-M Slack workspace, refer to Slack: Leave a Workspace.

If you have joined an external workspace and want to leave it permanently, follow the steps below. Note that taking these actions will only affect this specific external workspace and will not impact any additional external workspaces you have joined or your U-M Slack workspaces within the Enterprise Grid.

  1. Log in to and view the external workspace.
  2. Click the workspace name in the top left to open a drop-down menu.
  3. Hover over Tools & settings and select Customize workspace. This will open a new tab in your browser.
  4. Select Account & profile from the left side navigation.
  5. Scroll down to the Deactivate account section and click Deactivate your account.
    • Reminder: This will permanently remove you from the external workspace. It will not impact other external or U-M workspaces for which you are a member/admin.

Additional Information

If you know the workspace's URL and don't want to visit the workspace to take this action, you can also navigate to the webpage mentioned above by visiting https://[YourSlackWorkspaceURL]/account/settings, where you replace [YourSlackWorkspaceURL] with the URL of the external workspace (i.e., workspace.slack.com).
