Issue

I'm a host creating a meeting in U-M Zoom, and I'm trying to add someone as an alternative host. However, when I try to add them, I receive the following error: "Unable to assign "user@domain.com" as an alternative host because the user cannot be selected at this time." Why is this?

(Alternatively, the error may mention that the individual is "not associated with [our] account.")

Resolution

You can only make someone an alternative host if they have a U-M Zoom account.

  • If the individual is external to U-M and therefore doesn't have a U-M Zoom account, they cannot be added as an alternative host to your meeting. There is no workaround.
  • If you are attempting to add a Michigan Medicine staff/faculty member using their @med.umich.edu email address, this will not work, as their MM email address is not associated with U-M Zoom. Use their @umich.edu email address to add them as an alternative host. (If that still doesn't work, they may not have created their U-M Zoom account yet.)
  • If you are adding the individual using their @umich.edu email address, and it still isn't working, they may not have created their U-M Zoom account yet.
