Instructions for enrolling your landline telephone, non-smart cell phone, or softphone in Duo so you can use it for two-factor authentication (2FA) at U-M.

Resolution

The steps below detail how to enroll in Duo two-factor at U-M for the first time.

Note: If you have already started using Duo two-factor at U-M and want to add a device, refer to the steps in Manage Your Duo Devices.

For best results, complete these steps on a desktop or laptop computer.

  1. Go to UMICH Account Management and log in.
  2. Click Setup Duo.
  3. Click Next on the Welcome to Duo Security screen.
  4. Click Next on the Did you know? screen.
  5. Click Next on the What can you do? screen.
  6. Select Phone number.
  7. Enter the phone number.
  8. Click Continue.
  9. Click Yes, it’s correct if the correct phone number appears.
  10. Click Send me a passcode or Or call my phone.
  11. Verify the phone call or enter the passcode that was sent via text message to your phone.
  12. Click Verify.
  13. Click Continue.
  14. If you have another device or phone number to add as a backup option, select it now, or click Skip for now.
  15. Click Log in with Duo.

Additional Information

Note: Michigan Medicine affiliates will not be able to use call or text options with Michigan Medicine related resources. You will want to set up the Duo Mobile app, or enroll a security key to ensure you can authenticate everywhere. Contact HITS if you have additional questions about Duo authentication for Michigan Medicine.
