Issue

How do I restore/recover a deleted network file or folder on a (MiWorkspace) Windows computer?

Resolution

Scenario #1:  A single file is mistakenly edited and needs to be reverted back to a previous version

  1. Navigate to the network file in a Windows Explorer window
  2. Right-click on the file
  3. Select Restore Previous Versions

Edited Files will display in the resulting window

  1. Select an item
  2. Click Open
  3. Examine the contents
    1. You can choose Save As to restore the file in question to a different location
    2. You can choose Copy to copy it to a different location
    3. You can choose Restore to restore it to the original location

WARNING!  Restoring the file to its original location will overwrite the current version.

Scenario #2:  A file, folder, or combination of both are mistakenly deleted and need to be restored

NOTE: In this situation there is no file/folder to right-click on.

  1. Navigate to the parent folder level of the missing file/folder
  2. Right-click on the folder
  3. Select Restore Previous Versions

Deleted Files will display in the resulting window

  1. Examine the contents
    1. You can choose Save As to restore the file in question to a different location
    2. You can choose Copy to copy it to a different location
    3. You can choose Restore to restore it to the original location
  2. Select a previous version folder
  3. Choose Open to see its contents and to look for a specific file or folder
  4. You can also restore the entire folder

WARNING!  If you restore the entire folder it will overwrite the current folder.

NOTE: Snapshots of the MiWorkspace file (network) storage generally are taken twice a day -- once every morning, once every afternoon (typically 11am and 3pm). The exact times for the snapshots vary by department for load balancing reasons. Only the six most recent snapshots are kept available. Daily snapshots are taken every day at midnight and are kept for six days. Weekly snapshots are taken weekly and are kept for twelve weeks.
