Microsoft Windows 11 Education for Students
Issue
Where can I get Windows 11 as a University student?
Resolution
Microsoft offers Windows 11 Education for free to students. Please note that this is not being offered directly from the University, nor is it tied to the University's enterprise agreement or licensing with Microsoft. These directions are being offered only as a courtesy and issues with the downloading, activating, or using of Windows 11 Education are outside the scope of University support teams and services.
Follow the directions below to set up a free Microsoft Azure DevTools for Education account and access the software:
- In a browser window, go to https://signup.azure.com/studentverification?offerType=3.
- On the sign-in page, use your @umich.edu email address.
- You will be asked to agree to the terms and conditions and the academic verification.
- Once you've signed up and logged in, you'll be brought to the Microsft Azure 'Education | Overview' page.
- Navigate to the software area by clicking 'Software' on the left navigation pane.
- Find or search for Windows 11 in the list and click on 'Windows 11 Education' (not 'Windows 11 Education N') .
- Click 'View Key' to get the product key, and 'Download' for the Windows 11 installer.
Additional Information
Faculty and staff can purchase Windows 11 for personally-owned computers directly from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ or other authorized dealers.
