Connecting to USB-C Sites Monitors

Environment

Campus Computing Sites with USB-C connected monitors, BYOD (bring your own device) computing stations

Issue

Connecting a USB-C device to the monitor for display, peripheral usage, and charging.

Resolution

  1. Ensure your device has a USB-C port.
  2. Locate the provided USB-C cable at the computing station you are working at.
  3. Connect the USB-C cable to your device.
    • On Mac, you will get a pop-up on your device that you need to click Allow for the monitor and peripherals to connect
    • On Windows, the display is duplicated by default. You may extend the display instead using the instructions here
  4. If the connection is successful, your device will be able to use the display, peripherals, and charge your device.
    • If the connection fails, please bring the device to the Tech Help consultants at the Fishbowl or either of the UM Tech Shop locations, Michigan Union or Pierpont, for troubleshooting.  We will be able to verify if your device is capable of successfully using these monitors. Locations and hours for the UM Tech Shop are available here.

Additional Information

Currently, the Fishbowl Computing site located in Mason Hall is the only site with USB-C equipped BYOD stations.
