Convert Video to Audio Using VLC

Issue

How to convert a video (MP4) file to an audio (MP3) file using VLC Media Player for Windows and Mac.

Resolution

System Requirements for VLC

• Windows requirements
• Mac requirements

Install VLC on Windows and Mac

• Some University owned computers such as MiWorkspace
  • Software Center (Windows)
  • Managed Software Center (Mac)
• Or download and install from https://www.videolan.org/

Convert

1. Media > Convert/Save 
2. Click the Add button and select the video file
3. Click the arrow on the Convert/Save button and select Convert
4. Select Audio - MP3 for the profile
5. Click the Browse button to select the location for the converted file, change the file name (you'll need to remove the ".mp4" from the end of the name), then click Save
6. Click the Start button
7. The blue bar across the bottom of the player displays the conversion progress
8. When complete, you'll find the MP3 file in the location you specified
