Unzipping Zip Files

Environment

Applicable to all operating systems including Windows, MacOS, and Linux.

Issue

You are having trouble opening a zip file.

Resolution

Open a zip file on a computer

  1. Locate the zip file on your computer.
    1. PC users: Right-click on the file.
    2. Mac users: Double-click on the file.
  2. Select 'Extract All' from the context menu.
  3. Choose the location where you want the files to be extracted to.
  4. Click 'Extract'.

Open a zip file on my iPhone or tablet

  1. Open the Files app, then find the zip file or archive you want to uncompress.
  2. Tap the zip file or archive.
  3. A folder is created containing the files.
    1. To change its name, touch and hold on the folder, then tap Rename.
  4. Tap to open the folder.
