Issue
What is the MPrint User Dashboard? How do I use it?
Resolution
The MPrint User Dashboard (https://mprint.umich.edu/user) provides a summary of a user’s printer access groups, available MPrint accounts, recent print jobs, and cloud service integrations. Users can use this dashboard to quickly see a snapshot of their MPrint account, or change settings like their Default Destination or, if applicable, their account selection settings. IT Support Staff can also use this page to look up printer access group information for their customers as well, making it easier to diagnose print authorization issues.
Info Cards
Across the top of your User Dashboard view you will see 5 info cards displaying the following information:
- Your MPrint access role - for most this will just be "user," but if you have elevated permissions, it will say so here.
- Total number of pages printed in the current semester.
- You can click this card to view a more detailed breakdown of your printing usage in the current semester.
- Current MPrint balance.
- Number of currently pending/held Follow Me jobs.
- Currently set Default Destination for the MPrint Web App.
- Click on this card to change your Default Destination to something new.
Printer Access Information
The next section is the Printer Access Information box. This box shows your MPrint Service membership (ex. “MiWorkspace”), a more detailed breakdown of any elevated roles you have, and a list of MCommunity groups that grant you access to any restricted print queues.
Tip for IT Support Staff: When troubleshooting printer access issues for a user, take a look at the list of MCommunity groups for the user in question, and compare to the list of groups for a user who has the desired access. This should tell you which group(s) the first user needs to be added to. If you believe you have already handled the group membership properly but the Printer Access section still does not look correct, click on the green “Refresh User Info” button to clear server-side cache and reload the user’s MPrint profile.
MPrint Account Information
The MPrint Account Information box shows you the current state of your MPrint Account, and what access you have to shortcode accounts or quotas to subsidize your printing. This box also shows your current total available balance, how much money in MPrint Credits you have redeemed, and whether or not your account is permitted to accrue negative charges. If you have access to any shortcode accounts, you can also modify the Account Selection behavior to default to a single shortcode account, default to your quota/student accounts, or to always show you an Account Selection popup when you print.
At the bottom of this box you have a number of account actions available to you. Please see a description of each action, below:
- Create New Account - If you would like to pay for future printing with a University shortcode, click the Create New Account button to get started with setting up a new MPrint account.
- Purchase MPrint Credits - Add funds to your MPrint Account with a credit card by purchasing MPrint Credits from the University Tech Shop. After you have purchased credits, you will receive MPrint Credit Codes in your email. Return to this page to redeem your codes and the funds will be applied to your account immediately!
- Redeem MPrint Credit Codes - Click this button to redeem MPrint Credit Codes you purchased from the University Tech Shop.
- Request a Refund - View your job history and request a refund for print jobs you do not believe you should be charged for.
Note: Newly created shortcode accounts and purchased MPrint Credits cannot be used to pay for previously accrued printing expenses!
Recent Jobs
You can quickly view information about your most recently submitted print jobs in this box. Note that this list will only show a maximum of your 8 most recent jobs. If you need a more detailed view into your print usage, please try the MPrint Reports tool.
MPrint Cloud Services
Users can connect both Dropbox and Google Drive to their MPrint account to simplify the process of printing documents stored in either cloud service via the MPrint Web app. By connecting MPrint to these storage services, users can directly select files stored in the cloud via the MPrint Web app file navigation interface.
Connect to a cloud service by clicking on the disconnected service you are interested in, and in the resulting popup, click the link to begin the connection process. Follow the login process on the cloud service's website to link MPrint with your cloud storage account. Once the process is complete, you should be brought back to your User Dashboard page, and the service should show as connected.
Note: When following the login and authorization flow for the cloud services, you will be prompted to grant MPrint access. Granting this access gives the MPrint Web app read-only permissions to list your files and send what you choose to the printer of your choice.
You can disconnect a connected a cloud service by clicking on the connected service, and in the resulting popup, click the "Disconnect from Service" button. Disconnected services can be reconnected at anytime, if desired.
