Fixing Camera Access Errors for Persona ID Verification

Environment

Persona ID verification on mobile devices.

Issue

I am trying to complete Persona ID verification but receive an error saying the camera cannot be accessed.

Resolution

The camera error usually indicates that your browser or phone settings are blocking camera access. To resolve this, follow these steps:

Mobile

  1. Check Browser Permissions
    • iPhone (Safari): Tap the "AA" icon in the URL bar (top left), select Website Settings, and set Camera to Allow or Ask.
    • Android / Desktop (Chrome): Click the camera icon or the slider icon on the far left of the URL bar. Ensure the camera is set to Allow instead of Blocked.
  2. Check Phone System Settings
    • iPhone: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera. Turn ON the toggle for the browser you are using (e.g., Safari, Chrome).
    • Android: Go to Settings > Apps (or Apps & Notifications) > select your browser > Permissions > Camera, and set it to Allow only while using the app.

Desktop

  • Chrome: Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Camera > Default behavior, and select Sites can ask to use your camera.
  • Safari: Go to Safari > Settings (or Preferences) > Websites > Camera > look for https://inquiry.withpersona.com, and set it to Allow.
  • FireFox: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Permissions > Camera > Settings, set the site to Allow, optionally uncheck Block new requests asking to access your camera, then click Save Changes.
