Can’t Choose a Different Okta MFA Method on Desktop

Computer with Okta Verify App/FastPass setup

Issue

Not presented with preferred Okta authentication option.

Resolution

To use a different authentication option instead of FastPass or Okta Verify desktop app, follow these steps:

  1. Fully quit the Okta Verify desktop application on the device.
    1. Windows: Click the up arrow in the System Tray at the bottom-right of the taskbar, right-click the "Okta Verify" app, and select "Quit".
    2. MacOS: Click the Okta Verify icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen, right-click it, and select "Quit". If the Okta Verify icon is not visible, close other menu bar applications to reveal it.
  2. After quitting the app, attempt to authenticate again. You should then be presented with other enrolled MFA options.
    1. If prompted to open the Okta Verify desktop app during authentication, choose not to open it to access other authentication methods.

Removing Okta Verify from the device is not required; simply quitting the app allows access to other MFA options.
