Environment
Okta enrollment process using Okta Verify application
Issue
- When scanning the first QR codes on the Okta enrollment page from within the Okta Verify app, I receive a "Failed to scan QR code" error.
- When scanning the QR code, you receive an error: "Site can't be reached", or similar.
Resolution
Nothing Happens When Scanning Or "Failed to scan QR code" Error
If you are setting up Okta Verify as part of the uniqname setup or activation process, you may see a page with two QR codes after creating or activating your uniqname. These two QR codes — one for the Apple App Store and one for Google Play — are only for downloading the Okta Verify app. They are not activation QR codes and should not be scanned from inside Okta Verify.
If you already have Okta Verify installed, scanning these QR codes may do nothing, or you may see a “Failed to scan QR code” error.
To get to the activation QR code:
- On the page showing the two QR codes, click Continue.
- On the next page, look for a single QR code with the Block M logo in the center.
- Open the Okta Verify app and scan this Block M QR code.
- Follow the prompts to complete activation.
General Tips
- Use your phone's built in Camera app to scan the QR codes to download the app. Third Party apps sometimes have issues with scanning.
- Scan the activation QR code using the Okta Verify App
