Body
Goal: Schedule your Tandem term
When: Complete Term Planner when we notify you
What: Answer 5 questions about your term. Tandem will create a suggested calendar that you can edit. The starter calendar uses best practices from our research and experience implementing Tandem. You will be able to adjust due dates, delete assignments during holiday breaks, and manually assign lessons.
Next Steps: After you complete your Term Planner, your Tandem term will be ready to go!
More details below...
The second step to setting up your Tandem term is to create your schedule in the Term Planner.
You should complete the Term Planner at least two days before your new term begins. This will take about 5 minutes.
Step 1: Answer 5 Questions
- How long is your course?
- Semester long
- Short course (less than 15 weeks)
- Year long
- When would you like to release the Beginning of Term survey?
- When would you like to release the End of Term survey?
- When will you reveal teams to students?
- Team Check Release Day
- Team Checks will release at 6:00AM on the day of your choosing and be open for 3 days
Step 2: Edit Your Calendar
Tandem will make a suggested calendar for you. We use your information to create a calendar based on Tandem best practices. But, you may choose to make edits.
Edits to consider:
- Check for holidays. Delete lessons or Team Checks during term breaks.
- Adjust release dates and due dates. Check deadlines for the Beginning of Term Survey, Team Evaluations, Team Checks, and Lessons. You can adjust release and due dates from your calendar.
- Customize lesson releases. You can change a system automated lesson to a manually scheduled lesson of your choice
-
System Automated Lessons — Tandem automatically delivers the most relevant lesson to each team. Teams will receive different automated lessons at each lesson release. Tandem uses the most recent Team Check data to assess Team Health and assign a lesson that best matches that team's needs. For example, a team might have lower scores on “logistics" and receive the “Managing Logistics" lessons while another team might have lower Team Check scores on “sharing ideas" and receive the “Talk in Teams" lesson.
-
Manually Scheduled Lessons — You may choose to manually schedule a lesson instead of having Tandem select an automated lesson. In general, we recommend letting Tandem choose the lessons so that teams get the content that they need the most. However, you may choose to deliver particular lessons to the whole class at once, at a specific time in the term. For example, some instructors like to manually schedule the “Imposter Syndrome" lesson early in the term when students are most likely to be feeling unsure of themselves.
Step 3: Select Lessons
All lessons are enabled by default with the exception of “Preparing Presentations" (That lesson is turned off or on based on your answer to the class presentation question in your Course Details). If you wish to disable certain lessons, you can do so by visiting the “Lesson Selection" page, accessible on the left side of your screen.
Lesson Descriptions
Go to Tandem: Lessons Overview to view a summary, core message, and full text for each lesson.
Two lessons act as resources for students, are always available, and cannot be assigned. These lessons are “Team Leadership" and “Tough Conversations". Teams can access these lessons anytime they'd like.
Now Tandem has the information it needs. It’s time to connect your Tandem term to Canvas.
