Introduction to Program Memberships

The Five Membership Types

Spire offers five membership types: students, observers, staff, admins, and superusers.

Students

Student members are participants in the program. They have a more limited set of permissions. They can't access the admin interface, but they can create their own opportunities (visible only to them and program staff/admins, not other students). They can plan and complete opportunities, prioritize competencies, and create and submit reflections and level-up requests.

Observers

Observers are similar to students, but their capabilities are even more limited. They have read-only access to a program (no opportunity planning, reflecting, level-up submitting, etc).

Staff

Program staff have access to the student interface as well as parts of the admin interface. They can create opportunities for all students to see, but they can't publish them. They can view and review reflections and level-up requests (assuming they've been assigned to a cohort). They can view competencies, dimensions, and levels, but not edit them. They can also view and manage program members.

Admins

Program admins have access to most features related to their program: program settings, competency authoring, opportunity creation and publishing, level-up request reviews, etc.

Superusers

Superuser memberships are reserved for CAI staff to help with high-level operations of the program (such as auto-generated opportunities and recurring email announcements).
